Chrysanthèmes by French artist François Rivoire (1842–1919) is an elegant floral composition devoted to the rich colours and delicate forms of chrysanthemums. Created before 1902, the work presents a generous bouquet arranged in a rustic vessel, with blossoms ranging from soft white and pale yellow to rose, coral and deep red.
Rivoire was known for his sensitive depictions of flowers and became particularly admired for his watercolours and gouache works. In this composition, he carefully observes the character of each flower while allowing the softly brushed background to remain understated. The result is an airy and luminous study in colour, texture and seasonal abundance.
Today Chrysanthèmes belongs to the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims. Reproduced as a fine-art postcard, this historic floral artwork brings the quiet elegance of French flower painting into the intimate format of traditional correspondence. It is a beautiful choice for lovers of chrysanthemums, vintage floral art, French watercolour, autumn flowers and botanical-inspired postcards.
